Golden Helix to Host Second Competition for Sequence and Microarray Research Abstracts

Bozeman, MT (December 9, 2014) — As part of its ongoing commitment to empower genetic researchers around the world, Golden Helix today announced their second annual competition for abstracts. The company will put out a call for abstracts to genetic researchers world-wide using DNA-Seq, RNA-Seq, GWAS, or CNV methodology, as well as to researchers testing gene panels and those searching for rare variant discovery on December 15, 2014.

Abstracts will be evaluated based on four criteria: the importance of the biological question being studied and the impact it may have on the field, the overall study design and analysis methodology, the application of research and how the project will help move the area of study forward, and how Golden Helix software will assist in the research.

The grand prize is a one-year license of both SNP & Variation Suite (SVS) and VarSeq, loaded on a new Dell Latitude 14 E5440 laptop. The first prize winner will also present their research to the Golden Helix community via webcast and blog post. The runner up will receive a single-name user license of both SVS and VarSeq, and the third place entrant will receive their choice between an SVS license or a VarSeq license. Both the second and third place winners will also have the opportunity to give a webcast and be highlighted on the Golden Helix blog.

“The opportunity to host a second abstract competition is very exciting for Golden Helix,” said Andreas Scherer, President and CEO. “Enabling researchers to handle complex genetic analysis is our mission at Golden Helix. And providing researchers with a platform to present their work fosters collaboration in the field.”

SNP & Variation Suite is an integrated collection of powerful analytic tools for managing, analyzing, and visualizing multifaceted genomic an. Applications include candidate gene analysis, genome-wide association studies, copy number analysis, cytogenetic research, and next-generation sequencing studies.

VarSeq streamlines the process of annotating and filtering variants obtained from next generation sequencing pipelines, simplifying the user interface and provides a scalable architecture featuring repeatable workflows, note taking and reporting, and filter parameter prototyping.

Full details and the application for the competition can be found on Golden Helix’s website at www.goldenhelix.com/Events/Abstract_comp.html. The deadline for submissions is January 16, 2015. Winners will be announced on February 27th.
