Golden Helix to Launch Initiative Providing Free Analytic Software

Bozeman, MT (November 11, 2014) — Today, Golden Helix, Inc. announced a new initiative, Golden Helix Gives Back, which provides free analytic software to academic researchers without adequate funding.

Golden Helix has been in the life sciences business for over 15 years and, as part of their continued commitment to empower researchers, are launching an initiative to provide assistance to academic researchers. The initiative will accept applications from researchers who are interested in receiving a year's license of one of the company's software offerings; SNP & Variation Suite (SVS) or its newest product, VarSeq, free of charge. Golden Helix Gives Back is open to all academic, genetic researchers using DNA-Seq, RNA-Seq, GWAS, or CNV methodology.

Applications will be evaluated based on the following criteria: the importance of the biological question under study and the impact it may have on the field, the overall study design and analysis methodology, the application of research and how the project will help move the area forward, financial need, and how Golden Helix software will assist in the research.

Golden Helix will award the top 3 applicants with an annual licenses of their choosing; either SVS or VarSeq.

"Giving back to the genomics community is very important to us at Golden Helix," said Dr. Andreas Scherer, President and CEO. "Funding is often times difficult to receive and the lack of funding can halt important research. Proving software free of charge to researchers with extremely tight budgets is one of the ways Golden Helix can continue its mission of enabling genetic discovery."

SNP & Variation Suite is an integrated collection of powerful analytic tools for managing, analyzing, and visualizing multifaceted genomic and phenotypic data. Applications include candidate gene analysis, genome-wide association studies, copy number analysis, cytogenetic research, and next-generation sequencing studies.

VarSeq software streamlines the process of annotating and filtering variants obtained from next generation sequencing pipelines, allowing both research scientists and clinicians to find variants of interest in a very efficient and straightforward manner. VarSeq simplifies the user interface and provides a scalable architecture featuring repeatable workflows, note taking and reporting, and filter parameter prototyping.

The application and further details for the Golden Helix Gives Back initiative can be found on Golden Helix's website at /events/GHIgivesback.html. The initiative will open on November 10, 2014 and close on December 5, 2014. License recipients will be announced December 18, 2014.
