Golden Helix to Host Competition for Sequence and Microarray Research Abstracts
Bozeman, MT (December 5, 2013) — Golden Helix, Inc. today put out a call for abstracts to genetic researchers world-wide. Golden Helix has been in the life sciences business for over 15 years and, as part of their continued commitment to empower researchers, are hosting an abstracts competition. The contest is open to all genetic researchers using DNA-Seq, RNA-Seq, GWAS, or CNV methodology whether they be from academic, government, or commercial organizations.
Abstracts will be evaluated based on four criteria: the importance of the biological question under study and the impact it may have on the field, the overall study design and analysis methodology, the application of research and how the project will help move the area forward, and how Golden Helix software will assist in the research.
The grand prize is a one-year license of SNP & Variation Suite (SVS) loaded on a new Dell Latitude 6430u Ultrabook laptop as well as a second license of the SVS software to give to a colleague. The first prize winner will also be invited to present their research to the Golden Helix community via a webcast and blog post. The runner up will receive two SVS licenses, and the third place contestant will receive one license. Both the second and third place winners will also have the opportunity to give a webcast and be highlighted on the Golden Helix blog.
"This competition is very exciting for Golden Helix," said Andreas Scherer, President and CEO. "Giving software to researchers making an impact in their area of expertise is one of the ways Golden Helix can continue its mission of enabling genetic discovery. Further, featuring the winners' research to the genomics community helps advance the field forward and promote collaboration."
SNP & Variation Suite is an integrated collection of powerful analytic tools for managing, analyzing, and visualizing multifaceted genomic and phenotypic data. Applications include candidate gene analysis, genome-wide association studies, copy number analysis, cytogenetic research, and next-generation sequencing studies.
The application and further details for the competition can be found on Golden Helix's website at www.goldenhelix.com/community/abstracts.html. The deadline for submissions is January 31, 2014. Winners will be announced on February 28th.
