Bozeman, MT (November 6, 2012) — Golden Helix today announced it has added the GenomeBrowse application to Illumina’s BaseSpace Apps, Illumina’s dedicated applications store and informatics community dedicated to advancing genomic analysis.
GenomeBrowse is a revolutionary new genomic visualization and annotation platform for DNA and RNA sequence data, which allows researchers to view and explore their BaseSpace data on the cloud without having to download it first.
As the data deluge becomes more problematic due to NGS costs dropping, researchers are turning to cloud-based solutions to host and manage their data. Having a genome browser that can stream this data live is imperative to make cloud storage viable for researchers’ needs so that data can be immediately available without waiting for hundreds of gigabytes of data to be transferred.
“GenomeBrowse makes large-scale, genomic data accessible with its fluidity, speed, and user experience. Integrating it with BaseSpace makes researchers’ data that much more accessible. BaseSpace with GenomeBrowse is the perfect complement of technologies,” stated Gabe Rudy, Golden Helix’s Vice President of Product Development.
Golden Helix GenomeBrowse raises the bar on the user experience of exploring and finding key insights into genomic data. Every component of viewing alignment data, variant information, and genomic annotations has been optimized and streamlined to allow scientists to interact with their data as never before.
GenomeBrowse also comes with a comprehensive, cloud-based repository of public annotations including dbSNP, 1000 Genomes, NHLBI 6500 Exomes, UCSC Known Genes, Ensembl, the OMIM catalog, and many more. All cloud-based annotation tracks for GenomeBrowse have on-demand streaming so researchers don’t have to download them to start viewing data.
Golden Helix GenomeBrowse is currently available on Golden Helix’s website for free at www.goldenhelix.com/GenomeBrowse.
Informatics solutions available through BaseSpace Apps will allow customers to utilize the tools from a growing community of academic, commercial, and open source providers. To demonstrate the utility of this rapidly growing toolset, BaseSpace customers will have free access to all of the BaseSpace Apps until January 1, 2013.
